Brackets
Braces are dental instruments used to move teeth into the desired position. The brackets are placed securely on the teeth and are connected to the braces. The braces move the teeth to the correct position through the tension between the brackets. In this way, defects such as gaps and crookedness in the teeth are removed and made smooth. Three types of brackets are used in orthodontic treatments. These are metal brackets, aesthetic brackets and self-capped brackets.
Bracket Types
- Metal Brackets
Metal braces, which are frequently encountered as traditional braces, are the first bracket type that comes to mind when it comes to braces. It is more durable than other types due to the material it is made of.
- Aesthetic (ceramic) Brackets
As the name suggests, it is a type of colourless bracket produced from ceramic material and turned transparent. It looks compatible with the tooth and is preferred by people who are uncomfortable with the metal appearance. It is lighter and more sensitive than other types. For this reason, it is preferred by adults because it requires careful handling.
- Self-Capping Brackets
This type, also known as Damon brackets, are self-capping brackets. It resembles metal brackets in appearance. The difference from the metal ones is that there are valves on it. These caps serve to hold the wire. Compared to traditional brackets, the use of these brackets accelerates the treatment process.
