Inlay-Onlay Inlay

Treatment of tooth decay is done with fillings. Inlay and onlay fillings are restorative and aesthetic dentistry treatment methods applied to patients with tooth decay. The patient coming to the clinic can be examined and the treatment can be completed within 1-2 sessions.

For this reason, it is a fast procedure. It is a frequently preferred method because it enables the teeth to be repaired and made healthy with little material loss.

What is Inlay and Onlay Filling?

Inlay and onlay filling restoration can be defined as a dental procedure that is completed by cleaning the decayed parts of the tooth and then filling it with various materials. Inlay is the placement of a filling material specially prepared in the laboratory environment, placed on the inner surface of the tooth. Onlay, on the other hand, is the filling of the filling material placed on the outer surface of the tooth, which is also prepared in the laboratory environment, in place of the patient’s decayed tooth.

Inlay and onlay filling are the same treatment method, they are only named differently according to the part of the tooth covered. Inlay/onlay filling can be made using composite or porcelain filling material. Apart from this, gold inlay/onlay filling can also be used according to the preference of the person.

Inlay/Onlay How is Inlay/Filling Done?

Firstly, the decayed parts of the tooth are cleaned and then the teeth are measured. Measurements can be taken using a computer or impression mould. With the help of this mould, suitable filling material is produced in the laboratory environment.

Temporary fillings are removed from the mouth to place the fillings produced suitable for the patient. The gaps in the tooth are filled with special adhesive and fixed to the tooth with the new inlay/onlay filling produced. If necessary, minor interventions are made and the person regains healthy teeth.

Advantages of Inlay and Onlay Fillings

Inlay and onlay fillings are durable and can be used comfortably for a long time. Since they are made of filling material compatible with tooth colour, they look harmonious and aesthetic with other teeth.

They do not leak from the edge. They are resistant to decay.

Post Filling Care

As with any treatment, oral care is very important in the post-treatment process of inlay and onlay fillings. After your treatment is over, tooth brushing and other cleaning methods should be continued for the long-term healthy use of fillings or other teeth.
