Endodontics (Root Canal Treatment)
Toothache
A toothache is a feeling of pain caused by a discomfort in the teeth or gums. While some toothaches may be mild and go away on their own, others may be long-lasting and require medical intervention. The causes of toothache can be listed as tooth decay, cracking or fracture of the tooth, gum diseases, wisdom tooth eruption, faulty dental treatments, inflammation or nerve damage.
Visit the dentist to determine the cause of the toothache. In caries-induced pain, treatments such as filling or root canal treatment are applied after the decay is cleaned. The level of decay is important in deciding on treatment.
Root canal treatment
Root canal treatment is the cleaning, healing and filling with a protective substance of the canal cavity in the internal structure of the tooth, where infections can occur. The pulp, the structure through which the nerves pass, passes through the tooth and is sometimes damaged by decay. Inflammation and infection caused by decay can cause pain in the tooth, which is prevented by root canal treatment. The aim is to protect the tooth and prevent the infection from spreading.
Root Canal Treatment Renewal (Retreatment)
Some people who have had root canal treatment may experience recurrence of pain or inflammation symptoms due to various reasons. In this case, a root canal treatment retreatment is necessary. A root canal retreatment is a situation where the endodontic (root canal treatment) intervention performed due to deterioration or infection of the pulp inside a tooth deteriorates over time and becomes necessary again.
Root canal treatment reconstruction begins by numbing the tooth with local anesthesia. The tooth canal is opened and the old filling material inside is removed. The filling canal is cleaned and disinfected with special tools and other parts that may cause pain are checked. After this stage, the classical root canal treatment stages are followed. At the last stage, the tooth is covered with a permanent or temporary material.
Fiber Post Application
Fiber post application is preferred when there is excessive material loss or damage in a root canal treated tooth. A toothpick-like, thin and long material called fiber post is placed in the root canal. In this way, the filling material will receive support from the solid fiber rod. It is a useful treatment method for teeth with too deep decay or material loss to be filled.
The methods used before modern posts could cause cracks in the teeth. With the strong fiber post material, this problem has been eliminated and a solution that can be used robustly for a long time has been produced. The area where the post material will be placed for the tooth with root canal treatment is prepared and cleaned. The appropriate size post is placed in the cavity and fixed. A prosthetic tooth is placed on it and the tooth returns to its former function.
Endochron Restorations
Endochrone restorations, just like fiber post application, are an alternative dentistry treatment method used in teeth that have lost excessive material. It can also be applied in patients with curved roots. Since it has a very similar structure to the natural tooth appearance, it also provides aesthetic harmony in the area where it is applied. In endochron restoration treatment, the damaged, decayed part of the tooth that has undergone root canal treatment is cleaned. Afterwards, a cavity of appropriate size is created in the tooth. An intraoral impression is taken to produce an endochron suitable for this empty space in the tooth. The impression taking process can be done in traditional ways or with a camera system. In accordance with the measurements, a piece that will resemble the patient’s tooth in color and shape is produced. The endochron piece is carefully placed into the cavity.
Root Tip (Apical Resection) Treatment
Root tip treatment is the removal of the inflamed tooth root tip that causes pain in patients who continue to complain of pain after root canal treatment. Apical resection treatment can be applied to people who have fractures in the tooth root due to trauma, who have cysts in the tooth root or whose pain does not decrease despite root canal treatment.
